Funding Opportunities

There are many funding opportunities at Yale and beyond.  Some options are guaranteed for students who receive Yale Financial Aid (ISA and SEA), others are merit-based grants.

Fellowships (Grants/Competitive funding/merit-based awards)

Yale has over 300 different individual fellowships listed in the Student Grants Database – this database is one-stop shopping for merit-based awards and you shouldn’t miss out!  The only thing you need to be careful about is deadlines and starting early to plan.

Notes:

  • Fellowships are available to all students whether or not you receive financial aid.
  • There are fellowships for the summer AND for after you leave Yale!

Find advice on how to apply and how to make an appointment with a fellowships adviser at the Yale Fellowships and Funding website.

The Summer Experience Award (SEA)

If you receive financial aid from Yale, you are eligible to receive a Summer Experience Award – SEA.  $4,000 for a domestic experience, $6,000 for an international one. Visit the SEA website for all the details and plan for your summer now!

The International Study Award (ISA)

Do you receive financial aid from Yale and want to study abroad?  You are eligible to receive an International Study Award – ISA.  ISAs support Yale Summer Session Abroad programs OR approved non-Yale study abroad programs.  Your ISA award is proportional to your need and the cost of the program. Learn more on the ISA website.

External Fellowship Databases

Occasionally, it’s worth checking out external databases which list hundreds of different funding opportunities.  You never know what you might find! Yale maintains a vast database of external fellowships as well as links to other external databases
